YouTube user Steve Clark recently encountered what he describes as a 16′ (4.8m) great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) off the New Jersey coast. According to an NBC10 report Clark and his friends were working with NOAA to tag sharks as part of a cooperative initiative called the Apex Predator Program. Based on Clark’s video descriptions in his YouTube channel, he was expecting to find mako sharks (Isurus oxyrinchus), when he had the surprise white shark encounter.
The white shark was encountered about 30 miles off the coast of New Jersey’s Cape May on Saturday June 21. The shark circled Clark’s boat for about 20-minutes and made a snack out of his chum bag, as seen in the video above.
