Video: Mako shark nabs fisherman’s moray eel

YouTube user TheMarkFloro recently posted the above video which shows a fisherman reeling in a moray eel only to have it nabbed by shortfin mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus). While I’ve seen plenty of videos of tarpon and tuna being snagged by sharks, I think this marks the first time I’ve seen a moray snatched away from a fisherman. The fishermen seemed to take it in stride.

    Hmmm
Many people are not good at identifying Shark species, maybe even the shooter himself.
But Lamnids are easy as they have homocercal lunate tails. Watch it again – if it’s a heterocercal tail, then it ain’t a Mako.
Also, if it is a Mako, then it sure is a tiny one.

No real clear shot of the tail and makos start out small. Dorsal fin could be a young mako and the color is pretty close.
