Richard,

Thanks for the back story on the "Mystery" sculpture. It definitely captures the essence of white sharks at Guadalupe. When I first saw images of the sculpture, Guadalupe was the first thing that came to mind. I don't think I've ever seen "Mystery" on any of my trips out there. It's a shame that she has gone M.I.A.

Bill does absolutely great work. The larger white shark illustrated in your post came about when I commissioned Bill to do a large, more "natural" sculpture (no gnashing teeth) of a white shark. He based his design on my video footage of "Mystery" - a beautiful, then 16-foot female that frequents Isla Guadalupe. The original custom work now adorns my living room wall.

Unfortunately, "Mystery" has not been seen at the island in several years and, while the sharks can skip a year or two, there is a measure of concern that she may no longer be with us. That would be a shame - she is a magnificent shark to see, both as a sculpture and in the open sea.
